mportant Department Convention Delegate Information
Greetings Legionnaires,
As we prepare for the 2026 Department Convention, please review the following important information regarding Delegates and Alternate Delegates:
Every Post is entitled to two (2) Delegates and two (2) Alternate Delegates to the Department Convention.
Delegates and Alternates must be elected at a properly conducted Post meeting.
Delegate and Alternate certification forms must be submitted on the forms prescribed by the Department.
Department Constitution & Bylaws, Section 5 states:
"All Delegates and Alternate Delegates to the Department Convention shall be elected annually at a Post meeting and shall be certified to the Department Headquarters Executive Committee during the period beginning 30 days prior to the date of the Department Convention and ending upon the opening session of the Department Convention."
Posts may register Delegates and Alternates up to and including the morning of Convention.
Once the gavel drops to open the Department Convention on Friday, June 19, 2026, the delegate roster is sealed. No additional Delegates or Alternates may be added after that point.
Every Post has voting rights at Convention if its Delegates are properly registered and credentialed. We encourage every Post to ensure it is represented.
There will be no election of Department Officers for The American Legion at this Convention unless a vacancy exists and has been approved for election by the Department Executive Committee (DEC).
Convention voting will include resolutions and other matters properly brought before the Convention that are germane to The American Legion.
All delegates to National Convention will be elected at this session also.
If your Post has not yet selected its Delegates and Alternates, there is still time to do so. Please do not wait until the last minute.
The Department Convention is where the business of our Department is conducted and where Posts have the opportunity to shape the future of The American Legion Department of Colorado. We encourage every Post to participate and exercise its voting rights.
If you have questions regarding Delegate eligibility, certification, or credentials, please contact Department Headquarters.
Thank you for your continued dedication to The American Legion and the veterans we serve.
For God and Country,
Jim Talaska
